Lando, 14, loves going to school as much as playing "habulan" and baseball with friends. He used to help his mother sell “monay” on weekends to provide food for his 5 other siblings.
But in June 2008, just a few days after he enrolled for 2nd year high school, Lando began feeling severe weakness and numbness all over his body. Soon, he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare respiratory disorder which eventually paralyzed his whole body.
“Namanhid po ang mga paa ko hanggang sa di na ako makabangon at makalakad (My feet felt numb, I couldn’t get up and walk),” Lando recalls.
His condition worsened affecting even his eyesight. His helpless condition left him no choice but to stop schooling. Had it taken them longer to seek medical help, Lando would have gone totally blind.
Lando is one of _____World Vision sponsored children in Cavite. Thankfully, through Child Sponsorship, he receivedassistance for his initial check up and three-month confinement at the Philippine Orthopedic hospital.

“World Vision po ang tumulong sa nanay ko na madala ako sa ospital (World Vision helped my mother seek medical care for me),” Lando gratefully shares.
Lando’s condition is still regularly monitored. He still needs to go through monthly check ups in Manila to ensure complete recovery. Surrounded by people who care for him, Lando still has a positive outlook in life.
“Sana po makakita, makalakad at makapag-aral na ’kong muli! (I hope to be able to see, walk and go to school again!)” he shares with a smile. “Yan po ang panalangin ko araw-araw (That’s my prayer everyday).”
