Blessy finds inspiration from her mother

In her desire to provide a better life for her children, Blessy’s mother, Mardaliza landed a job far from her province. While Mardaliza is away, Blessy assumes the role of her mother at home.

"Since I am the eldest. I cook food, clean the house, wash clothes and study my lessons afterwards," Blessy shares. Everyday, she wakes up 5 o'clock in the morning to cook breakfast and returns home right away after school to prepare dinner for her family.

Blessy has two younger brothers, Kevin, 12 and Harley, 7. During school days, Blessy tutors them and allots time to play with them too. "Ate [Big Sister] Blessy is very kind and understanding to us," Kevin said.

Getting inspiration from her mother, World Vision sponsored child Blessy strives hard and stands strong to meet the needs of her family.

Blessy is now in her 3rd year in high school and is a consistent honor student.  She is currently the class president and the auditor of their School Body Organization. She has strong leadership skills and is hailed as one of the excellent student leaders on campus. "A good leader must possess patience and creativity," Blessy says.

Blessy is also known as one of the best campus writers. She attended writing competitions, taking her to different places across the country to represent her school. Last year, she won 1st place at the regional sports writing competition held in the Southern Philippines. Recently, she won another sports writing content and she will have the chance to compete at the national level.

Writing is clearly Blessy's favorite hobby. Aside from correspondence with her mother, Blessy also writes letters and cards to her sponsor. "I'm very thankful to my sponsor for supporting me. The letters and cards from my sponsor mean a lot to me," she shares.

Many would wonder how Blessy manages to excel well in school while doubling as lady of the house. Blessy shares she draws inspiration from her mother. "I'm so proud of mama. She is the most courageous woman I've known," she says.

Blessy added that she does her best at everything as an investment in the future. She never tires of hoping that one day, her mother will not have to be away from them. "I believe that with hard work and blessings from God, I will become a successful news anchor or a teacher someday. By that time, mama will not have to work so far anymore," Blessy shares.
