While addressing the immediate needs of children, child sponsorship’s long term goal is to enable families and communities build a healthy, stable and safe environment in which their own children can grow.

 

Through your support, members in the entire community – sponsored or not – also benefit from World Vision community development work. We work in a community for as long as 12-15 years and facilitate development work in three phases

 

1st to 3rd year Building Trust and Skills

Community Consultation takes place as a new community project and Child Sponsorship begins. Project plans are formed together with the main stakeholders which is the community people. Community leaders take part in identifying their own community’s needs, resources and vision on how they would like their community to progress. This is also the phase wherein trust and credibility begins and grows as the community and World Vision partners together in development work.

 

4th to 10th year Building Hope for the Present

World Vision staff works alongside community members to overcome obstacles in meeting their goals. This phase is also where the momentum builds on initial project successes. The community people begin to see that real change is possible and that it can happen in their own community. This is also where the Community’s ownership in their own development process increases.

 

11th to 15th year Building Confidence

In this last phase, the community is equipped with the right tools and training that they’ll need for economic sustainability. The community also comes up with sustainability projects that prepare them to carry on even after World Vision leaves. The years of hard work bear fruit for children, families and the whole community. It is also where World Vision re-focuses to another community in need but the benefits Child Sponsorship has provided to the community lives on.

Most of the communities’ Filipino help today are on their 3rd phase. Our project partners (people’s organization in the community) are now seriously working on their sustainability plan for the next five (5) years.

From this day on, sponsors’ support is crucial in helping build their capacities to take on several projects World Vision has started.
